Cadence From a Sunless Sea

A poem from my senior year in high school.

Cadence From a Sunless Sea

It is the full moon.
Tonight,
It will rain
for the first time in weeks.
When the blue-white fire streaks the sky,
It lights the world
to noon day brilliance
With the night's own brand
of emotion.
Today was a good day,
And there is nothing left
to say on the matter.
Good night,
And may the drums of heaven
Beat their rhythm for your peace.
Good night, my beloved...
And the rain begins to fall.

I've always loved thunderstorms. Even when I was a little kid, I adored watching them at night from my window and falling asleep to the sounds of rain on the roof and the cracking of thunder.
